Overview
Keysight is a leader in the field of electronic test and measurement, with a multitude of in-depth learning resources setting them apart from its competitors. Most of these materials, however, were scattered throughout the site, which created a need to rethink how Keysight customers learn online. The outcome of this project was a new experience, bringing learning content into one place where users can discover relevant resources, progress through courses, and find events in one seamless journey.
Current state
Keysight previously listed learning content under two items in the main menu with additional secondary links, each leading to a different page with its unique way of filtering for content. This was a pain point for users because it required them to know exactly what they were looking for and siloed them into pages, rather than helping them discover content relevant to their interests and learning goals.
Goals
From auditing the existing information architecture and identifying pain points in the learning journey, we established three goals for our new design:
One point of entry
Bring thought leadership resources and events into one place to provide a more integrated experience for the user.
Better search and discovery
Redesign a consistent search and filter experience that improves findability and discoverability among thousands of learning content.
Design for multiple content types
Design an experience that accommodates a variety of content types while minimizing the number of new page components to be created.
Information architecture
The new simplified information architecture would include all learn content under one item in the navigation, making it easy for users to know where to start their journey, easily access content by type, or navigate to a landing page where they can discover and refine their search.
Wireframe exploration
We needed to plan what elements should be found on the Learn landing page and how to optimize the explore experience. I collected and audited other designs for reference and created a page hierarchy before moving onto low-fidelity wireframes.
Creating a clear layout of information on-page and on resource cards was necessary to help users quickly scan to find the right content. The filter experience was also highly explored before to ensure that users could narrow their searches through multiple facets including topic, content type, product area, and language.
Creating flexible templates
Moving onto the article page design, I iterated on a flexible template that could be used to present different content types including articles, podcasts, videos, PDFs, and courses. Creating one template with reusable components would not only simplify work for the development team but also build a consistent UX and expectation of what content and layout to see on-page.
Additionally within this design phase, there were opportunities to cross-link back to the product marketing side of the site. We added callouts to products mentioned within the articles, linking users to product details pages where they could read more and decide to purchase if interested.
Final designs
The new designs simplified how users learn by establishing one entry point for all learning materials, allowing users to funnel down to relevant content in a unified Learn experience. The redesign also brought consistency between resource, event, and course pages, using similar stylistic and functional components across all pages to improve usability and help users find key information to achieve their learnign goals faster.
